Katya Petetskaya and Patrick Colozzi – In The Making at the Tanks Arts Centre

Visual artist, Katya Petetskaya, and filmmaker, Patrick Colozzi, come from the Blue Mountains and Sydney respectively, to collaborate on a new body of work responding to the flora of our region and the Cairns Botanic Gardens.
Petetskaya has developed a painting method that incorporates performance art techniques to create large-scale biomorphic painting works. Colozzi will be documenting this process and its inspiration, the surrounding natural environment. And, in turn, Petetskaya will respond to Colozzi’s footage. Together they will explore the impacts of nature on their practices.
The film is not meant to document a painting process per se but, rather the journey of art making from an initial impulse to experimentation and execution of the idea as captured on film and painting surfaces.
Works resulting from this residency, and artists’ previous works, will be on display in their studio/gallery throughout the term of the residency.
