MacDonnells Law Arrow Experience – Charity Fun Walk

Organised by the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation.

The MacDonnells Law Arrow Experience is a fun walk of two or four Arrows of Mt Whitfield, raising money for breast cancer services in FNQ.

The Arrow Trails on Mount Whitfield are close to the Cairns CBD and provide hundreds of residents with a daily exercise adventure and nature experience. The vegetation is mostly rainforest with patches of eucalyptus, grasslands and bamboo, all of which provide great shade from our FNQ sunshine. If you’re lucky, you will see animals such as bush turkeys and agile wallabies, and the views…Well they make every step worthwhile and you will be treated to spectacular sights along the way.

Why should I do it?
All funds raised will go towards supporting breast cancer patients in FNQ. BreastScreen Queensland (BSQ) Cairns Service provides free breast screening and follow-up testing to over 15,000 women in Far North Queensland each year. When the breast screen detects a possible concern, further assessment using state-of-the-art 3D digital breast tomosynthesis (tomo) optimises the accurate and efficient detection of early breast cancer. This means both the detection of cancers and the exclusion of benign findings is achieved with less tests, less time, and less worry. Women can be confident they’re receiving high-quality, personal care at BSQ Cairns, and the introduction of a second tomo machine will see the women in our region continue to receive a superior service.

How do I do it?
There are two course options which cater for different levels of fitness. Both are fully supported with volunteers and medics positioned along the trails. This is not a running race or relay.
You may be a first-timer wanting to experience the Arrows while walking and chatting with family and friends. The short course is a loop starting at Aeroglen, with participants walking up the gentler Yellow Arrow, down the Red Arrow, east along Collins Avenue and then left along Saltwater Creek path back to Aeroglen Carpark.

Or, you may want to set yourself a challenge and tackle the more strenuous long course which covers all four Arrows – Green, Blue, Red East and Yellow. If you choose this option, we will ferry you by bus from Aeroglen to the start of the Green Arrow in Whitfield and you can then walk about 10.4km of the beautiful trails before arriving back at Aeroglen Carpark.

Here you can relax, re-hydrate and refuel. There will be food and drink available, entertainment and the MG raffle will be drawn.

Besides these reasons to tackle trails, there is of course also the all important fundraising element: raising money for Breast Screen in Cairns.

For every $100 raised, you will receive an entry to win some great prizes provided by our sponsors. The more you raise, the more chances you have to win!

Course details.
Short course: Yellow and Red Arrows – up the Yellow and down Red Arrow east.
Long course: Start at the Green, then onto the Blue east, Red east and west and Yellow arrows.

Whichever course you choose, this is a day about getting outside and active, having fun and helping raise funds for local health services.
