TESS Seminar – Collection Genomic Insights into the Evolution and Conservation of Australia’s Rich and Highly Endemic Orchid Diversity
Join us on Wednesday 11th October for our weekly seminar.
We are LIVE STREAMING in the Crowther Lecture Theatre A3-003 – JCU Nguma-bada campus, where we are looking forward to hearing from Dr Katharina Nargar| Research Scientist | ATH & National Research Collections Australia (CSIRO)
Abstract: Biological research collections, such as herbaria and museums are a rich repositories of biological diversity, representing a temporally deep and spatially broad time-series of samples. Collection genomics has emerged as powerful tool to delve into this treasure chest to unravel the evolutionary journey of hyperdiverse groups and to shine light on past genomic diversity of extinct populations and species for conservation genomic studies. As examples, this talk will present research on Australia’s rich and highly endemic orchid flora which elucidates the origins and diversification of Australian orchids through time and space as well as highlight promising collection genomics approaches to inform the conservation of rare and threatened species.
LIVE in Cairns at JCU Cairns, Nguma-bada campus, Smithfield (Crowther Lecture Theatre A3-003) followed by drinks & nibbles.
The seminars is also live streamed on Zoom and YouTube:
