Vessels of the Rainforest and the Reef at The Court House

An exciting collaboration of two ceramicists local to Cairns.

Established artist Lone White and new to the scene Monique Burkhead share their Rainforest and Reef inspired ceramic vessels. Both artists are Cairns locals and share a passion for the tropical environment around them.

The Rainforest inspired ceramic forms created by Lone White achieve texture and flow using paper clay. The experimental glazes provide a matte finish and, with the inclusion of chrome oxide, give the pieces changing colours of the rainforest, including glitter.

Monique Burkhead’s artwork explores environmental concerns and the impacts of climate on nature. The series illustrates the colourful, vibrant and healthy reef when it is full of life, progressing to colourful pieces intermingled with greys and whites as life is leaving the reef.

Come for a wander and immerse yourself in the shapes and colours of these works which reflect the beauty of the natural world surrounding Cairns.
